Chinese Foot Massage
Western medicine sees the foot merely as a machine composed of 26 bones, 56 ligaments and 33 joints. To a practitioner of the traditional Chinese art of foot massage however, the condition of the whole body is affected by the sole of the foot. They believe each organ in the body is connected to a specific reflex point on each foot through an intermediary of 300 nerves, as in modern reflexology. By a precise and skilful manipulation of these points, vital functions can be stimulated, toxins eliminated, blood circulation improved and nerves soothed. In short, top to bottom well-being is available through the foot.
Traditionally, the massage begins with a pleasurable soaking of the feet in a wooden barrel or foot bath containing a liquid medicine chosen specifically for the client. The heated medicine warms the feet. Smart Therapies uses a more modern version of a foot spa, containing a selection of Western herbs! After the client’s feet have been rested and refreshed, lotion or oil is spread over the feet and calves and then every point of the soles is rubbed and kneaded.
Like most e~astern medical techniques, Reflexology concentrates on treating the whole person rather than just the symptoms of one particular ailment. Western medicine promises speedy relief at the drop of a pill, but this method is used to strengthen the body holistically over a series of visits, and to maintain the natural balance of the body.
