What Is Kinesiology?

Kinesiology is a complementary therapy that addresses health problems at source. It is probably the only truly (w)holistic therapy in that it works on four levels:

  • Neurological
  • Chemical
  • Emotional and
  • Energetic

This combined approach works to correct imbalances throughout the body and mind, allowing the entire system to rebalance, letting the body begin to heal itself.

What can Kinesiology Do?

It can be used to great effect to:

  • Increase energy and vitality
  • Relieve physical pain and tension
  • Prevent illness
  • Improve posture
  • Ease stress
  • Heal the effects of mental trauma
  • Enhance co-ordination and brain function
  • Pinpoint nutritional needs
  • Identify food sensitivities
  • Find and clear underlying causes of energy blocks and imbalance

Treatments

What Happens During a Treatment?

A detailed consultation is always given before the first treatment. Tests and treatments are carried out, fully clothed, usually lying on a treatment couch. Particular muscles are tested for weakness, and if necessary are treated in a variety of ways.

Some imbalances can be corrected during the treatment, but for others follow-up action is needed. This may involve lifestyle changes, specific exercises (usually very basic) or nutritional supplements that are indicated during muscle testing.

 How Many Sessions Are Needed?

Significant improvements can be noticed after 2 treatments, although this depends on the symptoms and the taking of supplements, often for a limited period of time.

 Who Is Kinesiology Suitable For?

Anyone can benefit from kinesiology, regardless of age, fitness level or health. The very old, young or frail can be treated effectively through a surrogate

Kinesiology links aspects from Traditional Chinese Medicine with Western style dietary and stress advice. The energy flow that the Chinese call Chi is generally accepted by most authorities in the West, and plays a large part in Kinesiology testing. Kinesiology was developed by a chiropractor, Dr George Goodheart, in 1965, who discovered that when a muscle was tested it could reveal vital information about the individual. Muscle testing is a form of language which communicates with the body. It is simple, gentle and non-intrusive, and enables the client’s own body to reveal imbalances which can then be treated – seeing really is believing as the muscles can’t lie!

The feedback from the muscles identifies what is required to correct not only the symptom, but much more importantly the underlying cause. The practitioner can restore balance within the body simply and quickly, relieving energy blockages, reducing tension and enhancing the body’s natural healing ability.

In the last 20 years, Kinesiology has steadily gained world-wide acceptance by orthodox and complementary practitioners alike.

Please remember – Nutritional Supplements are a vital part of the treatment and they greatly assist a speedy return to well-being. These can generally be supplied by Smart Therapies and are charged separately. We use good quality brands that are reasonably priced and actually work – you may be able to buy cheaper products in the shops, but these do not always contain the therapeutic doses needed for rapid recovery. The supplements we supply are “bio-available”, which ensures that your body is able to access the nutrients, rather than them passing straight through your body without being absorbed as is sometimes the case.
